Benefitting Multiple Ways
If you're not ready to make a gift through your will or estate, there’s another simple and flexible way to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka—naming us as a beneficiary on your financial accounts or policies. This option allows you to retain control of your assets during your lifetime while ensuring that your legacy makes a lasting impact on local youth.
You can name Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka as a beneficiary on:
IRAs and Retirement Plans
Life Insurance Policies
Donor Advised Funds
Commercial Annuities
Setting up a beneficiary designation is easy. Simply request a change-of-beneficiary form from your financial institution or policy administrator, or download it directly from their website. After completing the form with your desired changes, return it to the provider to formalize your gift.
How It Works
James and Kristen have always prioritized helping both their family and their community. They updated their estate plan to leave real estate and stocks to their children, while designating a $75,000 IRA to be transferred to Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka after their lifetime. Because the Club is a tax-exempt organization, their full $75,000 will go toward supporting youth programs.
Had James and Kristen left the IRA to their children, a portion of the funds—about $18,000*—would have been subject to federal income taxes, leaving only $57,000 for their family. By designating Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka as the beneficiary, they’re maximizing the impact of their hard-earned assets while supporting a cause they care about deeply.
